6-7 Jul (revised) - At West Point NY, Kennel, Train Station

6-7 July (revised)
Sorry this will be short and sweet with no pictures.  No Wi-Fi and negligible internet via Verizon here at the new campgrounds.  We are at Round Pond Recreation Area near West Point Military Academy, NY.  Moved here on the 6th of July, Doreen's birthday. We will be here two weeks.  Heading into NYC Saturday to tour, then Sunday for NY Mets baseball game.  All is well.  More later when we find Internet access.

6 July - Happy birthday, Doreen!!
Today we departed Navel Weapon Station Earle NJ and traveled to our 14th campground, Round Pond,  which is adjacent to West Point Military Academy near Highland Falls, NY.  We will be here 6-20 July and then head for Massachusetts.

Round Pond is an MWR (morale, welfare and recreation) facility for West Point.  It has some camping spots and cabins for rent plus picnic facilities, boating, canoeing, paddleboats, swimming, and other recreational facilities.  Since it is a military facility, like many of the others we have used, it is available to active and retired military and DoD.

The lake is very nice and from what they say has some pretty good fishing.  Here they require a State license (non-resident for me) plus a West Point permit.  Not sure I will invest in all that.
Nice reflection in Round Pond of the surrounding area.  Very hilly here, very picturesque

A view from our camp site towards the pond

A view towards the cabins behind us.  Interesting arrangement, We had to "parallel park" the RV.  First time we've stayed in a facility where I had to do that.

Shower and laundry facility very close to us.

One of the shelter houses by the beach.  Very nice!

The beach.  You can see all the moss - kind of nasty.

In honor of her birthday today, Doreen placed the New York decal on our camping map!

New York.  Check!  The remainder of New England will be filled in before we finish this trip.
7 July
Today we drove to Morgan Farms Kennel and Stable where we will be boarding the dog while we visit New York City.  Like our campground, it is also run by West Point Military Academy personnel.  We wanted to have a look at the place plus make sure in advance that all the paperwork was in order prior to us dropping off the dog in a couple days.  Our plan is to board the dog Saturday night and Sunday night.  Saturday we are going to New York City on the train and touring around there.  It will be a long day - too long for the little puppy bladder!!  We cannot get back before they close in the evening, so she will stay Saturday night.  Sunday we are attending a new York Mets baseball game, and again, we cannot get back to pick her up before they close for the evening, so we will pick her up Monday morning.

The kennel is part of the West Point Stables where the cadets horses are boarded.  A very nice facility, they were conducting a summer riding camp for kids when we visited.

After we visited the horse farm and kennel, we drove to the train station to get our tickets and check out the location.  It is in Peekskill NY on the east side of the Hudson River.
A view up the Hudson River.

Toll bridge across the Hudson.  EZ-Pass scores again!
The Peekskill Metro North train station.  Basically this building is abandoned, replaced with an automated machine that sells the tickets now.
After checking out these locations and getting out train tickets purchased in preparation for our venture into the City, we headed back to West Point and did some shopping at the Commissary and Post Exchange.  Then back to the campground for a little barbeque and relaxing.
