25 July - Arrived at Hanscom Air Force Base

25 July
Made the trip from Fourth Cliff to Hanscom Air Force Base, our 16th campground of this trip, which is NW of Boston.
Last stop before Maine!!

Hanscom Air Force Base in relationship to Boston.
It was only about a 55 mile trip from Fourth Cliff and took us just shy of two hours with the 10 am Boston traffic.  By the time we arrived and checked in the heat of the day was here so after setting up we hibernated in the RV and took a break, so no photos of the camp ground yet.  This is another military "Fam(ily) Camp".  They have about 73 RV sites, most full hookup (water, sewer, and 50-amp electric) and pull-through so no backing necessary. They have ample laundry facilities here at $1 per wash or dry, and the conveniences of a base exchange and commissary (food).

Another reason we favor the military Fam Camps is the cost.  We are paying $26/night here for a full hookup pull-through site with Wi-Fi (sketchy, but it is here).  If we were at a commercial campgrounds (KOA, etc) we would expect to pay $50-$60 or more (and Wi-Fi would still be sketchy :-).  On this trip we are camping 147 nights, so saving $20-40 per night adds up quickly.

Our good friend Ernie Souther who I worked with on active duty at Loring Air Force Base Maine back in the 70's is coming down tomorrow.  Ernie traveled to Des Moines to attend my retirement last summer.  Anyway, Wednesday we are going to tour Fenway Park and then staying to watch the Boston Red Sox play the Detroit Tigers.  That will be our seventh Major League ballpark and baseball game on this trip.  Eventually we will catch them all!  While we are here, we will also tour Boston and see the historic sights.  Then on the Maine (YEAH!!) to camp with our Air Force buddies and their spouses at a campground near Ernie Southers house, then to the Acadia area and then northbound to Loring Air Force base and our reunion.

That's it for tonight.  Stay cool!
