12 Aug - Lobster Dinner, Lumberjack Show

12 Aug
This morning I had an appointment at Darling Dodge to get the front end alignment checked on the truck.  I started to notice some unusual wear on the outside of the right front tire.  Doreen did some laundry while I was gone.

While they were checking out the truck, they let me use a spare office in the dealership with WiFi and I got all of the Apple products iOS updates done, plus many other updates including the blog.  Well the alignment was indeed off so they did a complete front end alignment and I then returned to the campground.

We took a break in the early afternoon and watched the Chicago Cubs baseball game and then headed out to have an early dinner.  Doreen had never tried lobster and no better place than Bar Harbor Maine!  We stopped at one of the local barbecue and lobster restaurants, which are very common here.  Nothing fancy, but great food!
We ordered a "twin plate" so each of us got a lobster and one side, which was plenty.
The pot lobsters and mussels are cooked

They are placed in a mesh bag and then cooked in boiling water

The finished product

Doreen's first lobster!

Doreen's was a female.  There were a few eggs on the underbelly and the tail is notched.
She enjoyed her first "bug" once she figured out how to crack the shell and where the meat is.

When we finished dinner we headed back towards the RV to the Great Maine Lumberjack Show.

The owner and star of the show is 'Timber' Tina Sheer.  She is originally from Heyward WI and her whole family has been involved with lumberjack competitions and shows for many years.  Tina and her 'Great Maine Lumberjack Show' has been featured on many different TV shows.  Tina was the announcer on ESPN's Stihl Timber Sports Series for over 15 years.  Tina also was a 'Castaway' on CBS's Survivor-Panama: Exile Island.

Tina educated the crowd and mixed in a good bit of comedy too!
The show includes actual events that are used in lumberjack competitions, such as:

Underhand chopping
Cross-cut sawing
Relay race

Modified stock saw

Speed climbing (poles were 50 ft tall)
Axe throwing

The show was very children-friendly.  All of the children in the audience were given the opportunity to participate in cross-cut sawing (with assistance from the lumberjacks) and were given certificates

Chain saw carving.  The completed item was given to a child in the audience.

The finished product - a chair

Log-rolling.  Wow these guys were really good!
I'm glad we went to this show,  It was very educational and entertaining.
